Spam message causes an autoresponce script to 'loop'

Just tried to use the default auto respose script on one of the mailboxes - just a quick 'we've got your message and will get back to ASAP' thing - works great except for one small problem...

It looks like we had a spam email into that box and the script sent a response - but the reply address was bogus. The mail server at the other end sent a message back saying 'sorry, no address of that name here' to which our server sent a response ... etc .... until we arrived in the morning to find 2300 'failed delivery' messages from the same address!!

I set up another mailbox on our server and changed the script so that the reply-to, errors-to and from were set to this new address (without and auto-responder) but the same constant loop keeps happening.

Is there any way to prevent it??

Right after the "SetHeader()" line, try adding
Code: Select all
MsgSetSender("");

Does that help? It should probably be in the default template anyway. There are many other rules for creating auto-responder templates which are not in the default template but that's another story.

Those headers are certainly a good idea, though I don't think many systems would use them.
